Sri Lanka is the capital of coconuts. Coconuts were first planted in Sri Lanka in 589 AD. Sri Lankans each consume around 100 coconuts every year. This is the highest consumption in the world. Coconuts are not only used for drinking and cooking but also fibre production and roofing amongst many other things.
Sri Lankan coconuts are prized for their oil content and their clean crisp taste. The most prized of all Sri Lankan coconuts is the thambili or King coconut which we use in our coconut water products. These beautiful golden coconuts are ubiquitous in road side stalls all over the country. We’re delighted to share this special variety of coconut with you.
We’re proud of our heritage. We have been growing coconuts in Sri Lanka and making them into delicious products for over 100 years. We look after the process from seed to shelf so you can be sure that our products are what they say they are.
We’re also proud to be one of the largest organic coconut farmers in Sri Lanka. All of our coconut farms and those of our suppliers are certified organic or in conversion. Organic farming protects the land, the farmers and the consumers from exposure to potentially harmful chemicals. It restores soil fertility, encourages biodiversity and land regeneration, and considers potential impact on flora and fauna. Organic farming avoids contamination of water sources from chemical run-off and promotes water efficiency.

Our people are important to us. We actively train all employees to acquire the skills and experience to carry out their responsibilities. We recognize each individual’s merit through compensation programs, skills development and career opportunities. We recognize and value the diversity of employees and ensure them freedom from bias and discrimination. We provide a work environment that encourages self-motivation, honesty, trust, and high legal and ethical standards.
We run a free healthcare program for our employees and in the case of farm workers this is extended to their families too. In addition, we conduct training programs to educate our own farmers in the areas of organic agricultural practices, child labor, women’s rights and alcoholism in collaboration with NGOs.
In addition to our own organic plantations, our Organic Out-growers scheme covers over 250 acres of organically certified cultivated coconut land farmed and owned by independent farmers. These out grower farm units are visited by our Agriculture Extension Officer who provides technical knowledge for better management of farm units under EEC and USDA-NOP organic regulations.
We purchase stock from our out grower network based on buy-back agreements for their produce at a guaranteed farm-gate price. This means the farmers reap the best price for their hard work without intermediary involvement. In real terms our out-growers receive 25% above the price of the going-rate of conventional coconuts.
